Used Folding Machines

Sheet metal folding machines are used for folding, bending, and pressing sheet metal.  These machines can vary quite a bit in functionality.  The most basic folders operate manually by having the user pinch the metal in between the top and bottom ram.  The operator then rotates the bottom ram to the desired angle creating a fold on the metal.  Complex CNC folding machines consist of CNC-controlled backstops, auto tool changers, and high-speed swing arms to help create some of the most complex shapes. We distribute several used folding machines from RAS, Fasti, and Jorns.

Different Types of Folding Machines Used in the Metalworking Industry

In the metalworking industry, folding machines are critical tools for creating precise folds and bends in metal sheets. These machines are used in a variety of applications, from HVAC ductwork to architectural metalwork. In this article, we will explore the different types of folding machines used in the metalworking industry and their key features.

    1. Manual Folding Machines

Manual folding machines are the most basic type of folding machine and are operated by hand. They are typically used for light-duty metalworking applications, such as hobbyist metalworking, small shops, and educational settings. Manual folding machines are compact, easy to use, and affordable, making them a popular choice for those just starting in the metalworking industry.

    2. Mechanical Folding Machines

Mechanical folding machines are operated using a foot pedal or a hand lever. They are more powerful than manual folding machines and can handle thicker and larger sheets of metal. Mechanical folding machines are commonly used in metalworking shops for creating ductwork, flashing, and other metal components.</

    3. Hydraulic Folding Machines

Hydraulic folding machines use hydraulic pressure to bend and fold metal sheets. They are capable of bending thicker and larger sheets of metal than mechanical folding machines. Hydraulic folding machines are typically used in metalworking shops for creating architectural metalwork, industrial components, and large ductwork.

    4. CNC Folding Machines

CNC folding machines are the most advanced type of folding machine and are operated using computer numerical control (CNC) technology. They are capable of creating complex folds and bends in metal sheets with a high degree of accuracy. CNC folding machines are used in large metalworking shops and manufacturing facilities for creating complex and intricate metal components.
